The learned people say that cycling is the most efficient way of transport. For example the energy that would be used for an hour of cycling will only be enough to power a car for a minute or so, while for a helicopter only a few seconds.
Now I don't know about that, but what I know is that cycling is the best form of exercise that I know of. And what I like the most about that is the fact that it doesn't even seem like exercise. You can just get on your bike and there you go. You can go visit friends, you can just go for a joy ride or go shopping. Whatever you do, you will still be exercising without even realizing it.
Over the weeks and the months your heart will get stronger and more powerful, your lungs will work more efficient, your legs will get stronger and at the end you will benefit tremendously without any visible effort.
Now if you are a lazy-bone I can't imagine what can be more inviting than that. Maybe those informercials that say you can get fit by just watching television while using the relevant item?
You can ride fast and powerfully or you can go slow. Going fast will make you tired and you will know that you had a workout. Going slow will not make you tired - depending on you level of fitness - but you will still get a good workout. Doing interval training on your bike will make you lose weight so fast, you propably won't believe it, until you see it yourself.
On a gravel road you are going to be the shock absorber, regardless of the fact that you have shock absorbers on you bike. Remember, that is part of the fun of cycling. Riding into a strong wind can be frustrating, especially where you cycle with all your might but only stay in one place, but that is still part of the fun.
I would advise anyone who start cycling to take the "road less traveled". Explore, discover and become a better person.
The main thing is to get off your butt and onto your bike and start pedaling. Soon you will be just as great a cycling fan like I am. Amen!
